State Supreme Court Sides with Port Angeles on Fluoridation
The State Supreme Court has ruled 5 to 4 that Port Angeles' water fluoridation plan cannot be challenged through the initiative process.
Two organizations, Protect Our Waters and Our Water-Our Choice! each filed an initiative in 2006 to challenge fluoridation. The Court ruled that fluoridation is an administrative action, and only legislative actions can be challenged by a public vote.

I know that many nut cases don't like it but I've never had an issue with it and the nut cases can drink other water if they want to.
Seems silly for the city to provide flouridation when our tap water doesn't even meet federal standards...After having a coffee machine repaired in Seattle recently, the service tech asked me "Geeze, what's in your water up there? These are the worst deposits and stains I've ever seen." I would think the city might try to deal with the shit that's already in our water before opting to add more.
Fluoride was forced on us by the City of Port Angeles. There is a lot of good research out there showing that it is not something we should be ingesting. It amounts to mass medication.
The water in Port Angeles comes from an aquifer under the Elwha River and is great water, that is, until the City poisons it.....
To me, it is about "choice".
I can choose to engage in a lot of risky and potentially harmful things in this life, if I want to. I can smoke, drink, drive a vehicle, sky-dive and more. I can choose to take the advice of a doctor when they prescribe medicines, even though so many come with warnings about "side effects".
But, the city makes this decision for me, without my approval, when it adds a medicine to the public water supply. Fluoride is not added to soften the water, it is added with the specific intentions of addressing what they believe is a health issue. It is used as a medicine.
Anyone who uses the public water system gets an uncontrolled amount of medicine. If that user is a 50 pound 6 year old child, and bathes in the water daily, has food cooked with it, and drinks 5 glasses a day, they get a lot more medicine in their body than a 250 pound 45 year old.
How much is enough? How much is too much? How is it controlled, to achieve the results?
The doctors don't give you a bottle of prescription drugs without specific instructions for how much to take, and when. Along with a lot of other instructions.
But this is different, because..
Yes, I can choose not to bathe, cook or drink the city water. Will the city not only rebate all the money I pay to have water supplied to my house, AND provide me with an alternate supply? Should I be required to both pay for water I can't use, AND to pay for an alternate supply to be delivered?
As opposed to those who wish to use fluoride can CHOOSE to buy fluoridated toothpaste, and address THEIR health issues as they CHOOSE.
If the city is going to get into the business of spending millions to "fix" public health issues, how about diabetes? How about broken arms and legs? Heart attacks?
America is all about individual rights and "choice", right?

I don't have any issues and drink it all the time without a seconds thought. Had two glasses of it this morning at the Cornerhouse.

Being as I've been in 49 states and a good share of Canada I can assure you that we have better water here than many places do.
I lived in a place once where you could only take a shower about every three days or it would make it feel like your skin was on fire.

I’ve spent most of my life in areas without fluorinated water and guess what? Fought my teeth and made dentists richer, but not anymore, got pissed and had them all removed. I’ll be that dentists hate having fluorinated water here.
Don’t miss those teeth at all, I hated them. We don’t need teeth to be healthy, anyone that says differently is full of crap. Besides, some women like to have their nipples gummed and that just happens to be the kind of woman I like. :-)

"Haters" is actually a pretty common term these days, especially in gangsta thug culture and in online comments. I've seen "haters" here enough times that I co-opted that for my example, which I set aside in quotation marks.
