Star Video to Close

Star Video, one of the last of the Peninsula's video rental stores, will be closing on June 2nd. The store has been in business for 21 years.  Manager Genna Ferrie said the closure had nothing to do with poor sales:

“Business has never been better.  That's the sad thing. It's sad for the community.”

A Chinese restaurant will be opening in the Star Video space and the Star Video owner was unable to find a new space.

That stood out to me, that they couldn't find a place. It's tough here.

I also found it refreshing, that they didn't blame the INTERNET.

And I was shocked the PDN reported it and printed it.

I dont' shop at places in PA or Sequim that play the victim game and can't see their name in the paper without slamming people, or companies, that do business on the internet. They do too but don't let on.

I didn't understand the PDN article. It implied (a bad thing for a paper to do) that the space was leased to a Chinese restaurant, the owner couldn't find a new space and so decided to close.

If they'd followed up on that thread they could have avoided confusion.

Then the PDN also said there no other store that rented videos on the Peninsula before listing stores in PT and possible Forks.

Sad to see Star Video go, and we don't need ANOTHER Chinese restaurant here.

Like, there are not LOTS of empty storefronts in the Port Angeles area?

We need balance and perspective in this town. I'd like to see an Ethiopian restaurant in this town. It would be heartwarming!

The claim that they couldn't find a location (perhaps the old Blockbuster that is STILL empty on Lincoln?) is just as believable as the claim that Netflix and Redbox didn't put them out of business.

In many parts of the world, "Republican" retail space owners aren't that bad. But in Port Angeles, most (not all) have that Lyndon LaRouch thing going on.

The "teabagger" mystique is inappropriate in real world business matters, as they mostly live off the gubment, and that is our unique problem, too.

"If they'd followed up on that thread they could have avoided confusion." Oh, so profound. - My mother used to say that. She would say, "Keep talking...you are confusing me."

It's been well over a year since I rented a movie from them. Not because I didn't like them cuz I did, I've just been busy doing other things and whoring around on the internut.

The new Chinese restaurant can't depend on me for any business either, the old lady next door don't like chink food so we spend most of our eating out money at the Cornerhouse or Wendy's.

If the new chink place has a buffet I may sneak away from the old lady next door and give it a try. I like some chink foods but I can't stand the fucking menus.

Teabagger @ 2:33 Nice try. Not.

There were a few deals on some retail spots in PA a couple of years ago. Small window, and if you had 100K, great, but only deals now are SFRs. Some on the market are listed as commercial but are not really viable. This is a good SFR. More than half off. And it's a good time to SELL! (and buy, of course) Had a loan on it for 316K, maybe more. Chase has really held out, and is offering them up, right under what they put them up for at the courthouse, so no whining allowed. This one will make someone from California a nice pot farm. That's pissing off a lot of the teabaggers around here. The old stills just aren't so profitable anymore, and the regulations with all that, sheesh.

Anon @ 8:04, you'd get farther convincing people with your arguments if you didn't call them names first. I have no idea what an observation of a lot of vacant retail spaces and the dominance of Netflix/Redbox has to do with teabaggers.
