Inflatable “Bubble” Field House for Port Angeles

A “bubble” field house (not to be confused with the Bubble Boy) has been awarded to the Clallam County YMCA. People will be able to play soccer and tennis indoors year-around regardless of the weather.

This is nice, but should this be a top priority for Port Angeles? In today’s PDN, a letter to the editor reminds us that Port Angeles voters shot down the high-tech bells-and-whistles YMCA pool, and that the city already has enough trouble maintaining the William Shore Memorial Pool.

The Port Angeles City Council has already voted unanimously in favor of this project. But three of those council members are no longer on the City Council. How will their replacements vote?

Should the public have a say in all of this? What do you think?

Tumwater Truck Route Closing. Again.

The Tumwater Truck Route will be closed Wednesday through Friday of this week. It'll be closed again from December 3rd through the 7th.

Front, First and Lincoln Streets will be open and more crowded than ever.

The two Eighth Street Bridges are supposed to be open on November 1st, 2008. The bridges are supposed to have bike lanes and sidewalks, which will be an improvement over the old bridges.

Christmas in Downtown Port Angeles

Downtown Port Angeles is all done up for the Holiday Season. The trees are all strung up with those winter lights, the wreaths are up and most downtown merchants have their stores decorated.

And don’t forget the Christmas Tree Lighting will be this Saturday.

When you're in town, check out the Landing Mall. Their open air market is up and running, and more vendors will be setting up their booths. (It’s on the first floor of the Landing.)

As one local advertisement keeps saying: Who needs the shopping mall when you have Downtown Port Angeles? Come on down.

“Simple Majority” for School Levies

Even before all votes have been counted, the “simple majority” requirement for school levies has apparently passed. (Clallam County voters rejected it.)

With two Port Angeles schools closing, do you think the local school district still needs more money? Should school levies be passed by just 50.1% of the voters, or should we have kept the 60% supermajority requirement?
