City Council Might Take Official Position on Wild Olympics
This coming Tuesday at 6 p.m., the Port Angeles City Council will listen to the public to hear what they think about the Wild Olympics plan. After receiving public input, the City Council might or might not take an official position on the issue.

Burn Ban to be Extended
The burn ban in Clallam County usually expires on October first. Because of the continuing dry weather this year, Community Development Director and fire marshal Sheila Roark Miller has extended the ban indefinitely.

Options for Lincoln Park Master Plan
Last week an audience heard three different options for tree removal in Lincoln Park. Some of the trees are diseased and some are blocking the flight path to William R. Fairchild International Airport.
The three options are: Doing nothing; removing trees that are currently — and will be in the future — obstructing access; and removing only those trees that are currently at/near obstruction limits. There will be another meeting on October 10th, 6 p.m. at Vern Burton Community Center.

City Council Approves $3.9 Million for Esplanade
The Port Angeles City Council voted 6 to 1, with Max Mania voting No, to OK $3.9 million for the Esplanade phase of the waterfront improvement project. The contract is going to Primo Construction of Carlsborg.

City Might Crack Down on Parking "Movers"
At the request of the Port Angeles Downtown Association and the Police Department, the City Council will be taking up a proposal to modify the city parking ordinance. If it's approved, you will no longer be able to avoid a parking ticket by moving your parked vehicle within the parking space.
The proposed modification will also restrict how long a vehicle with a Disabled placard can remain in the same parking space.

Jim McEntire to Speak at PABA meeting
Clallam County Commissioner Jim McEntire will be the guest speaker at this Tuesday's meeting of the Port Angeles Business Association.
Restoration of Elwha River Ahead of Schedule
A year after starting the removal of the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams, the restoration of the Elwha River is ahead of schedule. Barnard Construction Co., based in Bozeman, MT, expects to have the Glines Canyon dam completely removed by this spring.

Grand Opening of New Border Patrol Complex
Next Friday at ten a.m. there will be a grand opening ceremony at the Border Patrol's new facility at 110 South Penn Street. Because of limited seating, the event is open “only to media with credentials and invited guests,”according to a Border Patrol statement.

Port Angeles to Become Washington's First All-WiFi City
Beginning October 8th, everyone within the Port Angeles city limits will have access to mobile Internet service. On that date, the $3.7 million Metro-Net wireless project will be launched; all of Port Angeles will be a WiFi hot spot.
