Freedom Foundation will hold a Work-In on Labor Day

You've gotta be kidding.  The Freedom Foundation is the Koch/ALEC-funded union-busting organization behind Sequim Propositions 1 and 2.  (The Sequim City Council is supposed to decide on September 8th whether to pass Propositions 1 and 2 into law, or put them on the November ballot.)

And just to show that they're putting their money where their mouths are, the Freedom Foundation will have a work-in on Labor Day.

Freedom Foundation CEO Tom McCabe said:

“I can’t think of a problem in society that can’t be traced in some way back to the abuses of organized labor, so it would be hypocritical of us to take a day off on its behalf.”

While the rest of us are enjoying tomorrow's holiday, the dedicated union-busters at the Freedom Foundation will be toting that cell phone, lifting that briefcase.

Thorndyke Resources vs. Everyone Else (cont'd)

Thorndyke Resources, the company that's determined to build a pit-to-pier gravel mining project in the Hood Canal, consequences be damned, filed a lawsuit several weeks ago in order to lash out against environmentalists and anyone else who stands between Thorndyke Resources and its profits.  And now, in a classic textbook example of terms like “self-fulfilling” and “circular reasoning,” Thorndyke Resources is having a fit because Peter Goldmark, Commissioner of Public Lands, gave a 90-minute tour to several journalists who wanted to see the parts of the Hood Canal that would be destroyed by Thorndyke's proposed gravel mining operation.

Dan Baskins, spokesman for Thorndyke Resources, said:

“It's not right that he has spent all this time and money entertaining reporters and discussing a matter that is in litigation.”

[sigh]

Uh, yeah, it's “in litigation” because of the groundless/frivolous lawsuit that you filed.  That term again is circular reasoning.

Sheila Roark Miller to speak at PABA meeting

Clallam County community development director Sheila Roark Miller will be the guest at this Tuesday's meeting of the Port Angeles Business Association.  She will be discussing marijuana operations in unincorporated areas and the land use (i.e. NIMBY) issues that have been erupting lately.

Hood Canal Sand and Gravel Throws Tantrum, Files Lawsuit

Hood Canal Sand and Gravel, thwarted in their pit-to-pier gravel operation, has filed a lawsuit in Jefferson County Superior Court against state and federal regulations which block development along the Hood Canal coastline.  When all else fails, sue.

Mike Chapman offers to Step Down from Chairman Position

Clallam County Commissioner Mike Chapman offered yesterday to step down from his position as Chairman, which he has held for the past year and a half.  At yesterday's meeting he said:

"I'll just throw this out there, you're not happy with what I'm doing here. So, maybe I should step down and let someone else run these meetings.  Frankly, I'm not having any fun running these meetings, I'm being accused of stuff I'm not doing and I wish one of you would take it on."

PA United to be topic at next PABA meeting

At this Tuesday's meeting of the Port Angeles Business Association, there will be a group discussion of PA United and the PABA's role in it.
